Meet the No Shoes AMA HOUSE Team

No Shoes AMA HOUSE is a monthly event series championing South African music and building community through dance, music, art and sustainable fashion in Vancouver Canada. This event is produced by Pattern Nation & High Vibrations and features DJs CostaBesta, OWABOWA, and Bizrankin, and Hosts Afro Girl and Cyd Eva .

Cyd Eva

Cyd Eva is a queer poly artist of settle colonial UK descent who was born and raised in Greater Vancouver so-called Canada and has also lived and worked in Cape Town and Durban South Africa since 2017. She is a multi-disciplinary artist and the founder of Pattern Nation artist collective working in the mediums of painting, surface pattern design, textile sculpture, fashion design, event production, dance, and curation. With a love for vibrant colours and patterns her unique aesthetic brings bright and bold energy throughout all the facets of her creative expression. 

Bizrankin 

20+ years in the game of DJing and production he’s known for blending diverse genres into unique, dynamic mixes. His ability to seamlessly merge styles has made him stand out in the music scene. Bringing that east coast flavor to the west.

Afro Girl

The creator of High Vibrations and a Master of Ceremonies to say the least. Cultivating community in the Amapiano world spreading vibes from Vancouver to New York and all the way out in Europe. Being a freestyle dancer flowing for the past 5 years, some call her a rhythm alchemist.

CostaBesta 

Nhlakanipho Shabalala aka Costa, CostaBesta.

A South African artist that specializes in rapping, producing his own music, Dj-ing, photography, Fashion designer to name the least. He raps in 5 languages and captivates his crowd with dance moves and peculiar whistling skills. Coming from the Zulu culture, he fuses/samples his Zulu heritage music with his new sound to make it sound like a certain sound scape. His lyrics are written in such a way that the crowd can't resist listening to.

OWABOWA

is a Vancouver-based DJ who discovered her passion for South African music while living in Cape Town in 2007.  Since then she's immersed herself in South African music and dance, sharing these vibes with Canadian audiences. A dancer herself, OWABOWA knows how to get people moving with her high-energy, playful sets.
