Pattern Nation

Pattern Nation is a slow fashion sustainable clothing design brand, artist collective and creative platform for colourful humans run by cosmic partners and spouses Cyd Eva and Costa Besta and friend and artist Brianna Klassen. We create handmade one of a kind & small run ungendered street wear and accessories, interactive art installations called blobs, visual art and surface pattern designs, fashion films and photography, DJ & live music sets, events, workshops, collaborative projects and more. Our current work takes place on the stolen, unceded and traditional territories of the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm people (Kwikwetlem) in Coquitlam BC and have previously worked and lived in Vancouver Canada (all), Durban and Cape town South Africa (Cyd & Costa) and Bangalore India (Bri).

cyd Eva

is a queer visual artist, fashion designer, Art Teacher, podcast host, dancer, installation artist and surface pattern designer from Coquitlam so-called BC Canada. She has a BFA in visual art from Simon Fraser university, a degree in Fashion Design from Cape town college of fashion design and is a graduate of surface design immersion with bonnie christine, bravely business incubator for creative entrepreneurs and Durban university of technology’s pattern drafting program.

She is the founder of the brand and designs original art for pattern nation, sews and creates many of our products and is the inventor of our blobs: interactive play sculptures. Cyd also co-hosts the podcast Sassy Souls on the Sassy SHow based out of London UK. She is passionate about creativity, community, self expression, colour and pattern and deeply values the time she has spent in Canada, South Africa and England building the Pattern Nation brand through events, collaborations and teaching. Cyd is currently teaching visual art and fashion design at Place Des Arts in Coquitlam and offers programs for youth and adults.

Nhlakanipho Shabalala Also known as Costa, Costabesta, Mr Shanengelele, Bra Mfana, Mfanagithi, Lankhwen, Brazo Razo is a performing & recording artist/ DJ/ voice over artist, fashion designer, music curator, beat boxer, dancer, typecast model, photographer/ videographer.
he is A South African artist based in vancouver/Coquitlam, BC Canada who Grew up in 2 small towns in the Free State and KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. through patternnation costa creates, designs and sews his style of clothing which is Retro looking, colour blocking and full of patterns as well as is a hip-hop artist that does experimental music and collaborates with various producers as well as produces his own beats. He has a degree in fashion design from cape town college of fashion design.
“Hailing from the smallest town”, he's out to get “the crowd bouncing like a bad cheque”.

Performance artist, designer and singer, Mend is obsessed with the resonance of a creative community coming together to celebrate expression. She believes in the power of resourcefulness in art, love and work. Her vision for a sustainable, decolonized community is one where each individual has the privilege of participating in self-exploration and expression. We source our materials in Canada and South Africa and choose sustainable options as often as possible.

Returns & Exchanges:

We appreciate every customer so much and we know that you value our one-of-a-kind and small run clothing, art & accessories. We understand that buying one of a kind and upcycled items online can be a risk for fit, so we offer refunds and exchanges for any online purchases within Canada. If you wish to return something, please contact us and ship the package back to us. Our address is on the shipping label and the compostable bag reseals if you take the paper of the second glue strip. You will be responsible for paying the shipping fees and once we recieve the package back and check that is not damaged we will send you your refund via e-transfer (Canada only). If you wish to exchange the item please contact us, exchanges in Canada will be available until October 15th 2023.

If you bought the item in person at an event, we are not able to offer you a refund, but you are welcome to come to our next event and exchange the item in person. We are an extremely small business and do not have the capacity to facilitate refunds and exchanges as we do events in various cities in various countries. We appreciate your understanding and hope to be able to improve this policy as we expand as a business.
